WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Avenues library program equips students with 21st-century information literacy skills that empower students to be critical thinkers and ethical users of information in a global, interconnected world. The library program provides students, faculty, and community with a global collection of carefully selected books and digital resources, instruction, and innovative programming to support learning and inquiry at Avenues and beyond.

The Library and Media Specialist manages the library program in grades 6-12 to enrich each student’s academic programming and expose all students to diverse works and authors. Inspiring a love of reading, research and information literacy, the librarian works with students and teachers to ensure that students harness their curiosity and drive their own learning. And s/he will also:

Build the Avenues São Paulo library, filling it with a rich global collection of high-quality literature and resources for children of all ages
Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes, targeting instruction to address individual needs
Provide instruction on how to use the Avenues library’s vast digital collection for research and inquiry
Build a learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous but joyful learning community
Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and continually deepen student learning
Inspire trust and confidence among parents and families
WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Strong library and media content knowledge: several years of experience in library science and twenty-first century library/informational skills, with deep knowledge of middle grade, young adult, and adult literature
Strong information technology skills( (e.g. e-book collections, subject and periodical databases, literacy apps, etc.)
Instructional skills to teach and coach students in media literacy, research and conscious, responsible use of information and ideas
A remarkable entrepreneurial drive, creativity and ability to bring new ideas to fruition
Intellectual curiosity and humility, to reflect on and continually grow in teaching practice
A strong sense of personal responsibility for the success of every student
